BARTLESVILLE CHORAL SOCIETY HOLDS OPEN REHEARSAL AND AUDITION FOR NEW SINGERS

Fall is in the air and preparations are being made for the August 29, 2011 open rehearsal of the Bartlesville Choral Society.  The Bartlesville Community Center is the place for this annual event, featuring auditions for new singers who have not previously auditioned  from 6:00 p.m. to 6:45 p.m., and a reunion at 7:00 p.m. for long-time singers and those who might have been absent for any number of reasons, but wish to be a part of the group this season.  New singers are encouraged to bring a prepared number for auditions, and sight-reading ability is preferred.  Mueller will have music available if no particular piece is prepared.  Susan Mueller has been the Music Director/Conductor for most of the group’s existence and Dolores McCreary serves as accompanist.  During the open rehearsal, Mueller will review music to be performed for the 2011-12 season and the group will rehearse a few of the numbers.  Following the shortened rehearsal, board members will provide a cookie and punch reception for all who wish to stay and visit, renewing old friendships and making new ones.  Regular rehearsals resume on the first Monday after Labor Day on September 12, 2011 at 7:00 p.m. in the Bartlesville High School Fine Arts Building Choir Room.

Founded in 1977 by Dr. Robert Hauck, the group has been directed by Hauck, Lauren Green and Noel Kaiser since its beginning.  Many achievements have been noted over the years, including several trips to perform in Carnegie Hall under famous directors; a trip to University of Missouri-Kansas City (UMKC) for a performance of the Verdi Requiem to mark the Oklahoma City bombing back in 1995 under renowned conductor Dr. Eph Ely; several performances with the Tulsa Signature Symphony under Dr. G. Barry Epperley, where members of the Choral Society blended with chorus members from several fine Tulsa area university and college choruses.  The most recent was the widely acclaimed “The Defiant Requiem”, commonly called Verdi’s Requiem.  The group has also performed for the OK Mozart Festival, along with other performance opportunities.

This year’s “Seasons of Light” concert series will feature “Memorial” on November 5, 2011, featuring a musical tribute to the Americans lost 10 years ago in the September 11 attacks.  The Faure` Requiem will be performed, along with other music marking the solemn occasion.  Christmas will mark the return of the tradition of presenting Handel’s Messiah with full orchestra on December 4, 2011.  The season will end with a lighthearted concert of cinema music “Let’s Go to the Movies” on April 1, 2012 (no fooling!).  Season tickets will be available soon and individual concert tickets will be on sale approximately a month before each concert, or from members of the group.  Call 918-333-6719 for more information.  All concerts are held in the Bartlesville Community Center.  We are grateful for the assistance of the Oklahoma Arts Council, the National Endowment for the Arts, ConocoPhillips, and other patrons and individual donors who ensure the future of this outstanding community treasure.
